Finding Your Way Around With The Help Of GPS

Ever seen a car GPS terminal on the dashboard of a car? I am referring to the small display that shows and tells you the direction to your destination? All you need to do before you set off to your destination is to key in your destination name and the GPS terminal will guide you there through both visually and auditory means.

This capability has now come built into the cellphone. Of course not all cellphones support this feature. For those that do, this is a very useful feature that will guide you to whichever destination whether it's by foot, by bus or even by train.

How does the phone do this? The phone is able to do this with the help of a GPS receiver within the electronics of the phone. This receiver receives the GPS signals from the GPS satellites in space so as to determine where you are. Together with the maps of different countries in your device, the device will be able to show you your current location on the map.

Let's say your current position is A and you want to go to position B. Just start your MAPS application in your device, turn on the GPS feature and wait for your location to be determined. Once determined, just key in position B (your destination) and click Show Directions. Simple as that.

The device will now show the route to be taken in order to arrive at point B. Verbal driving instructions will guide you to your destination. For walking, you can see the breadcrumbs on the map (symbolising the direction you have walked). Some devices even advised you which bus to take to the desired destination.

Honestly, it's very difficult for you to get lost with this feature. In addition, you can download the maps of whichever country you need. This makes moving around in a foreign country much easier.

There are however a few things you need to know. They are:

1. Your phone must have GPS functionality in order to be able to use this

2. To determine your current location, it is best to be in an unobstructed location i.e. outdoors with a clear sky

3. Don't touch the place where the GPS antenna of the phone is located

This will help your device to locate your current location at a faster speed, with a faster accuracy.

Another piece of advice for you. That is bring along a spare battery if you are going to use GPS a lot. Why? This is because GPS uses quite a lot of the battery juice.

Lost, no more! Hurray to technology.
