How to Correct A Car GPS

Most problems that develop when using a car GPS in an automobile are usually related to navigation settings. What normally appears on the surface to be a buggy performance is, in fact, settings which often are not optimized to your preferences. For example, the routes and types of roads you want to use can be optimized on the GPS device.

The first step is to ensure the direction preferences settings are set to your preference for calculating the direction. In the setup menu, choose "Faster Time" to calculate directions that are quicker to drive but are longer in distance. These routes usually include freeways and toll roads, and you may include more miles to your car over time. Choose "Shorter Distance" to calculate the distances that are as short but normally take more time to drive because of other causes like, traffic jams or unpaved roads.

Confirm the "Avoidances" setting – normally know as "Road Types" or other tags too. Ensure the types of roads you’ll use are enabled. Such as, you can enable or disable unpaved roads, highways and toll roads. If your car GPS includes a traffic monitoring included, you can set the device to evade traffic.

The audio alerts can be set on or off. You can put off the attention tone as well as the audio voice – which normally announces the routes. If maybe your audio voice is not functioning, then you should check out this menu option to see if it's off.

Restart the device if the mentioned steps above haven't fixed your problem. As a final resort, go to the "Restore Settings" menu option in the navigation settings to restore the device to its factory status. It's not going to restore your car GPS settings, but it will likely correct it.

Tips: Pushing the "Restore Settings" will reverse any work you have done in configuring the car DVD GPS device, while heavy tree cover could also root for a buggy behavior – this is common.
